The Quarantine Series (Part 1) Setting Expectations

The Quarantine Series// 𝕊𝕖𝕥𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝔼𝕩𝕡𝕖𝕔𝕥𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟𝕤

.

.

With each day that passes, we are each getting a little more 'settled' into our daily routine in quarantine, which means that behaviors may become more silly...stir crazy...rambunctious...lackadaisical...you name it!

.

.

As a family unit, setting expectations 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓇𝒾𝑔𝒽𝓉 𝓌𝒶𝓎 can be a super helpful tool!

.

.

The more descriptive the expectation you set, the more observable and measurable. MEANING, you are more likely to be able to confidently praise your child for it! If rules/expectations are written in a subjective light, it can be difficult to identify when it has been accomplished, and there may even be disagreement across parents on if success was obtained. 𝕆𝕓𝕤𝕖𝕣𝕧𝕒𝕓𝕝𝕖 𝕒𝕟𝕕 𝕞𝕖𝕒𝕤𝕦𝕣𝕒𝕓𝕝𝕖 (aka objective) 𝕚𝕤 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕟𝕒𝕞𝕖 𝕠𝕗 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕘𝕠𝕠𝕕 𝕖𝕩𝕡𝕖𝕔𝕥𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟 𝕘𝕒𝕞𝕖!

.

.

Another important tidbit...for every 1 time you 'get onto' your child for not following expectations, try to find 3-5 opportunities to PRAISE them for following expectations! Catch. Them. Being. Good.🙃And always be SPECIFIC in your praise! Tell them which expectation they followed, how they did it, and why you are proud of them.

.

.

Attached is also a template that we have created for your use during this time, as well as some other examples of good expectations we found online (we do not own the rights to those pictures, but we commend them for some awesome expectation writing, and want to share!)
